These five yarns are hands down, my absolute favorite yarns for summer crochet projects! There are so many amazing yarns out there, but I wanted to narrow it down to the ones that are at the top of my list. If you’ve never tried these before… trust me when I tell you that you’ll love these yarns!
Before we get into the yarns, I have to be honest.. If you had asked me about summer crochet projects a few years ago, I would have just said that I skipped over summer and went straight into making more winter projects. Then I realized the secret to falling in love with summer crochet… it’s all about finding the right yarn! Once I found the right kind of yarn, I became addicted to making summer projects!
As you go through this list, you’re going to notice that these yarns have a few things in common. They are mainly DK or worsted weight yarn, so they’re the perfect thickness for your project without making it too heavy. They’re also all cotton or cotton blends! I LOVE cotton yarn for summer projects because it breathes when you wear it and holds up well over time.
Just like any crochet project, you want to make sure you’re using the right kind of yarn for the project. It’s always best to use the yarn a pattern calls for, or substitute with a yarn that has the same weight and fiber content.

Comfy Yarn
For the record, I’m not putting these yarns in any particular order… but if I was, the Comfy Yarn line from Knit Picks & WeCrochet would near the top of the list. My first favorite in this line is Comfy Color Mist, which is what I used to make my Pebble Cardi in the photos of this post! Comfy Color Mist has gorgeous subtle speckles throughout the yarn, but if you want a solid color – Comfy Worsted is the exact same fiber base but in solid colors! And if you’re looking for something even lighter, check out Comfy in Fingering weight!
This yarn is mainly cotton with a touch of acrylic, which makes it super soft and it holds up beautifully over time. I’ve used it for garments, like my Pebble Cardi pattern and I also love it for baby blankets and baby items!
Coboo
Coboo, by Lion Brand, is a 50/50 blend of cotton and bamboo, which results in a silky soft (but not shiny) yarn. It’s a DK weight and the fiber content gives it the most gorgeous drape. It’s perfect for summer projects like the Tank It Easy Top that I designed for Lion Brand’s spring and summer collection last year! They’ve added even more colors to the Coboo lineup, like a super cute olive and a gorgeous peach color, which just makes me want to create even more designs in this yarn!
One thing you should know about Coboo is that it’s made up of tiny strands, which gives the most gorgeous stitch definition but can also cause splitting when you’re working on a project. After a few rows, I felt like I was cruising along without any issues, but if you experience splitting with this yarn – try out a different crochet hook! Sometimes switching your hook up can help a lot more than you think. It also helps when you are working in a more simple stitch pattern, like the Tank It Easy Top, versus something with intricate cables!
The Cotton
The Cotton yarn by We Are Knitters is pure luxury. It’s the most gorgeous 100% Pima Cotton yarn that is both soft, but sturdy to work with. The moment you get it out of the package, you’ll feel exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve used this yarn for summer cardigans in the past and let me tell you – they still look brand new years later.
The Cotton is a worsted weight yarn, but I find that it’s a little on the lighter side and could also work as a DK weight. I personally love this because it keeps your garments lightweight! It also one of those yarns that is made up of little strands, which give it gorgeous stitch definition and texture. I didn’t have any issues with splitting, but if you do you experience any splitting, be sure to try out a different hook!
Cotlin
Next up is my newest favorite summer yarn, Cotlin! I love the color options of the Cotlin is a DK weight yarn with 70% cotton and 30% linen. I love that this yarn feels like a cotton blend, but it has that beautiful touch of linen that gives it gorgeous stitch definition. Not only this, but linen is super lightweight and breathable and will help wick away moisture while you wear it. I’ve always wanted to work with a linen yarn and this was the perfect blend for me!
Cotlin was amazing to work with for my Perfect Summer Poncho! This design became an instant favorite for me because it’s such an easy layer to throw on in the chilly spring mornings, or on warm beach days in the summer. Check out the free pattern to get started!
Dishie
Last but not least is Dishie! The other yarns I mentioned in this post are ideal for garments and wearable items, but Dishie is my go-to yarn for functional items like dishcloths, towels, or pretty much anything for your kitchen! It comes in a whole range of colors, like variegated, multicolor, and the super cute Dishie Twist that you see in the photos of this post! It’s a worsted weight 100% cotton yarn and it’s a little bit on the lighter side of worsted weight, which helps it dry out quickly after each use.
If you’ve been following me for a while, it’s no surprise that this is one of my favorite cotton yarns. I’ve used Dishie for a few of my free patterns, like My Favorite Dishcloth and the Dishie Towel.
