I can’t believe I’m saying this… but I got to design a pattern for Knitcrate!!! It all started last summer, well over a year ago, and I’ve kept it a complete secret since!
The Overcast Cowl was inspired by the cold, gray winter days where the world seems still. The super soft yarn, neutral tones, and squishy ribbed texture make it easy to style and wear all season long. It’s a little reminder that no matter how chilly or gray the weather, you can step outside with the cozy comforts of home.
The best part about this collaboration is that I got to be featured with Chantal, of Knitatude! Check out Chantal’s knit design for this month’s Knitcrate on her blog here (it’ll make you LOL, trust me).

What is Knitcrate?
Knitcrate is a monthly subscription where each month you get luxury yarn + an exclusive pattern! Don’t be fooled by the name – it’s for crocheters too! Each month, you’ll get a knit AND crochet pattern for the yarn, so you can choose which technique and pattern you want!
What I love about Knitcrate is that they feature unique, luxurious yarns and they collaborate with indie designers, like me!, to create a pattern just for that yarn. It’s such an amazing way to support different yarn companies and designers throughout the knit and crochet community!
If you see a monthly Knitcrate that catches your eye, be sure to use the code WOODSWOOL20 to get 20% off your first box!

First Impressions
When Knitcrate showed us their mood board and the yarn selection for this crate, I knew it was going to be AMAZING. For one, I love neutrals. I will always pick a soft, neutral color yarn if I have the choice, so I knew I was going to love this one.
When I got to hold the yarn in person though…. wow. It is SO soft and squishy! I don’t think I’ve ever worked with a yarn quite like this and I LOVED it. I was pleasantly surprised after I started working with this yarn when I realized that it’s super soft, and it holds up beautifully! Sometimes a super soft bulky yarn can get fuzzy or start to pill quickly, but this yarn didn’t at all (even when I had to rip out a swatch several times).

The Overcast Cowl uses a super bulky (6) weight yarn and easy, beginner-friendly stitches, so it works up in no time! Try out the super soft recommended yarn or your favorite super bulky yarn in your stash.
If you want to do a little stash diving, you’ll need about 165 yards of a super bulky yarn and a 9mm (US M/N) crochet hook!
