Have you ever tried making a granny square or crocheting with the granny stitch? This design started as a little adventure to learn the classic granny stitch. In over 20 years of crocheting, I’ve never made a granny square *gasp* and thought I should start by learning the granny stitch! I created this design as a way to master the granny stitch and (hopefully) someday design a garment with it!
If you’re looking for a quick and easy crochet pattern to learn the granny stitch, you’ll love the Granny Stripe Dishcloth. You’ll be done in no time and have a boost of confidence to work more granny stitch patterns.
In the pattern, you’ll find a handy stitch diagram to give you a visual aid as you work through the written portion of the pattern. If you’re anything like me, this pattern will leave you wondering what took you so long to try out this super fun and classic crochet stitch.

My Favorite Cotton Yarn
This crochet pattern uses the yarn I just can’t stop coming back to! There’s a reason I’ve designed so many patterns with Dishie yarn. This budget-friendly cotton yarn is truly one of my absolute favorites because it’s delightful to work with a tight twist that’s smooth on your hands and gives amazing stitch definition, and it gives you a functional piece that is soft to the touch, yet sturdy enough to hold up over time.
I have a stack of dishcloths made with this yarn and we use them every single day! The colors stay bright and beautiful even after being washed (and dried) constantly in hot water. They last for years even with lots of scrubbing, washing, and cleaning up.
If you’re new to Dishie, I recommend checking out the whole Dishie family of yarns! You can find a beautiful range of solids, multi-color, a marled twist, and even get a whole cone of your favorite color.
If you’re looking for the colorways in the pictured dishcloths, I used:
- Swan, Butterscotch, & Colonial Rose for the pink/yellow dishcloth
- Swan, Sunbaked, & Inlet for the rust/blue dishcloth
Combine three colors of my favorite cotton yarn or use up a worsted weight cotton in your stash.
