Let me start by saying this pattern was a huge honor for me. I got to collaborate with one of my favorite designers and people in the maker world – Chantal, from Knitatude. And that’s not all. I also had the amazing opportunity to work with Lion Brand to bring you this pattern as a kit. If you didn’t get a chance to follow along on Instagram, let me tell you a little more about how this amazing collaboration came to be.
The Process
The pattern all started with Chantal’s knit version of the Chain Link Armored Cowl. She released her design earlier this fall and I was one of many crocheters wishing for a crochet version. We decided to collaborate, and I analyzed (and overanalyzed) the design of the crochet version. I wanted to stay true to the original vision, which meant finding stitches that provided a similar texture and drape. Once the final design was nailed down, I was able to create the different sizes you see in the pattern today and begin the testing process!
The Photos
It was really important to me to get the photography just right for this design. I imagined wearing this cowl vest around the campfire, or on a hike in the woods, so I wanted to make sure I captured an outdoorsy feel in the photos. I actually borrowed my parents’ chocolate lab, Charlie, for the photos and I have to say – he did a great job!
At this point, everything seemed too good to be true. I got to work with an amazing designer and create a pattern I absolutely loved. Then it got even better…
The Kit
About a month ago, this pattern was released as a kit with Lion Brand! (I still can’t believe this!!) It’s amazing to connect with makers who have also loved Lion Brand for years, and create a new design with a yarn we all love. .
Seeing your design come to life as a kit is incredible and it makes me so happy to see your Chain Link Armored Cowl projects on Instagram. Use the #chainlinkarmoredcowl hashtag to share your project!
